All needful 5 steps of IVF that you need to know about!

IVF is combining of woman’s egg and man’s sperm in a laboratory dish. In vitro, it termed an outside body. When the sperm is attached to and entered the egg this process is called fertilization.

In the body of intending mother the egg and sperm are fertilized.  If this fertilized egg gets attached to the womb lining and develops to grow, the baby is born after natural 9 months of conceiving. In medical terms this processes are also known as unassisted conception.IVF treatments are same and are part of assisted reproductive technology (ART). Special help of medical techniques are taken to help an intending mother to get pregnancy. These treatments are generally tried when natural process of conceiving fails or fertility techniques gets failed.

In the fertility treatment, the intending parents and especially a female partner has to go through some steps that are done in Fertility clinic.

Basic 5 Steps  for IVF are:

In order to boost production of eggs the intending mother are given fertility drugs.

The command and usefulness of fertility drugs is that they instruct to produce several eggs instead of one per month.

To monitor on things, doctors will suggest going for Trans vaginal ultrasound. This step is usually required to examine ovaries and blood tests to check hormone levels.

Egg retrieval

Follicular aspiration is a minor surgery that is done to extract the eggs from the woman’s body.

In order to give ease in the procedure the woman will be also given certain medication that eliminates pain completely.

Ultrasound images are used for guidance purpose. Expert doctor of IVF centre in Mumbai will insert a very thin needle through the vagina, ovary and sacs out follicles containing eggs. To a suction device, the needle is related which helps in pulling out eggs and fluid out of each follicle, one at a time.

The same procedures are repeated for other ovary. Little or mild cramping is expected after procedures but they bound to go away next day.

In fewer cases there are chances of using pelvic laparoscopy that may be required to remove eggs. If poor quality or no eggs are produced by the intending mother then in such cases donor eggs are used.

Insemination and Fertilization

The placement of best quality eggs and man’s sperm is done together in the laboratory. When the sperm and egg is mixed this processes are generally referred as insemination.

The storage of eggs and sperm is done in a set controlled chamber. After the insemination process the sperm usually enters and gets fertilized with egg.

If a medical doctor finds out that the chances of fertilization are low, then the decision of inserting the sperm directly into the egg is taken. In medical terms, this process is also known as ICSI.

If the doctor thinks the chance of fertilization is low, the sperm may be directly injected into the egg. This is called Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

Embryo culture

When there is division of fertilized egg it turns out to be an embryo. Continuous monitoring of the embryo will be done to check on its normal growth. In five days’ time, several cells of the normal embryo will be divided actively.

When the fertilized egg divides, it becomes an embryo. Laboratory staff will regularly check the embryo to make sure it is growing properly. Within about 5 days, a normal embryo has several cells that are actively dividing.

Transfer of the embryos

After 3 to 5 days of egg retrieval and fertilization the placement of embryos is done in the womb of intending mother.

With the help of a thin tube also known as a catheterthat contains embryos are entered into vagina, through the cervix and till the womb. Procedures are simply commenced when the patient is awake. If embryo is implanted in the lining of womb then it does beautifully results in pregnancy.

The age factors determines the number of embryos that are too be placed into womb. With this process there are chances of woman conceiving with twins, triplets or more.

One of the phenomenal advantages of female infertility treatment procedures is that the embryos that are not being used can be frozen, implanted or donated for a later date.
